Southdown & Eridge Hunt Country
The Southdown & Eridge Hunt is located in south east England with the kennels situated in Ringmer, East Sussex.
The country lies between the Cuckmere River to the east and the Adur River to the West. The northern boundary runs from Henfield, Hickstead and along the A272. At the A272 in Maresfield, the country extends north and east through Ashdown Forest to Withyham, Tunbridge Wells and Hurst Green. The southern boundary is the English Channel.
The country is split into two distinct territories. The south and west incorporates the South Downs, which are open chalkland with Hunt jumps. Coverts are thick gorse, runs long and viewing panoramic. Some arable land on the Downs is being returned to grassland. The east side is flat and wooded weald, with many new Hunt jumps. The Great Storm of 1987 felled many old trees in the coverts; these have since been replanted, but are not yet thinned.
